Exploring transformative solutions through workshops where Arte Útil expands beyond disciplines, uniting Art, Architecture, Sustainable Development, Civic Engagement, and Law as tools for positive change.
Arte Útil is more than “useful art,” it’s art as a tool for social change, using creativity to tackle real-world issues.
As part of Speculative Library, a project organised by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, the curatorial team selected Arte Útil case studies related to Yamaguchi’s social situation. Between October 28th 2023 and February 25th 2024 a public programme of workshops and meetings will accompany the development of the exhibition.
The new Arte Útil website has a section that features an in-depth analysis of selected case studies. Such selection gathers the voices, input and points of view of artists as initiators, users and collaborators through interviews that have been collected online between 2020 and 2022.
In this interview, Alejandro Meitin answers some questions about ‘Energía alternativa para Isla Paulino’ (Alternative energy for Isla Paulino), a project realised with his collective Ala Plástica included in the Arte Útil archive. Check the project here.
