The Arte Útil archive at Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media

As part of Speculative Library, a project organised by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, the curatorial team selected Arte Útil case studies related to Yamaguchi’s social situation.

The Speculative Library establishes an open platform, a shared space where people can come together to explore, create, and collaborate. This project re-examines the relationship between YCAM and its public and finds new ways to engage with the community. It serves as a gateway for the public to access YCAM’s resources and knowledge. Instead of just producing objects, this platform generates ideas that can spark change. It’s a flexible space for learning, discussing, and creating. On the empty bookshelves, there are various mechanisms to record the ‘knowledge’, ‘memories’ and ‘ideas’ of everyone who uses this library. Let’s share and learn from each other through workshops, events and exhibitions. On the occasion of YCAM’s 20th anniversary, this project aims to review the relationship with local people and explore ‘new ways of using YCAM’.

Between October 28th 2023 and February 25th 2024 a public programme of workshops and meetings will accompany the development of the exhibition.
